Wal-Mart Not Welcome In Sturgeon Bay
(WFRV)
STURGEON BAY, WI
A proposed Wal-Mart Supercenter in Sturgeon Bay was "rolled back" by the City Council last night. All to the delight of sign waving protesters.
Wal-Mart wants to build a 180,000 square foot Supercenter on the outskirts of town.
An annexation proposal went before the Council last night. But more than 100 protesters made their voices heard before the meeting, saying a new Wal-Mart would drain the life out of small independent businesses downtown.
The City Council voted down the proposal seven to zero.
Later today, the Sturgeon Bay Planning Commission will consider an ordinance that would not allow any retail store over 90,000 square feet within city limits.
