Mississippi River Collaborative

MississippiMidwest Environmental Advocates plays a key role in implementation of Clean Water Act and enforcement in the Mississippi River Basin, as part of the McKnight Mississippi River Water Quality Collaborative.  Approximately two-third’s of Wisconsin drains to the Mississippi River Basin, a once mighty river, now referred to as an “orphan” in a recent National Academy of Sciences report.   Along with organizations based in each of nine states bordering the mainstem Mississippi River, and technical and legal support, MEA works to improve water quality in the basin by focusing on six strategic paths to improving water quality in the Mississippi River Basin:
