Pipeline break sends 21,000 gallons of oil into farmer's field

CURTISS, Wis. A 4-foot crack in an underground pipeline spilled about 21-thousand gallons of crude oil into a drainage ditch at a Wisconsin farmer's field.

But a spokeswoman for Houston-based Enbridge Energy says no major environmental damage was expected.

Denise Hamsher says the vast majority of the crude oil has been recovered.

The spill was discovered yesterday --- about five miles southwest of Curtiss. The damaged section was cut out and replaced. The line should reopen late today or tomorrow.

What caused the pipe to crack remains under investigation.
