EXELAND,
Wis. Test wells are being installed near Exeland to determine the
extent of groundwater contamination from a massive oil spill.
A construction crew for Enbridge Energy ruptured a pipeline last month, releasing 126-thousand gallons of petroleum.
Department
of Natural Resources spill coordinator John Sager says much of the oil
was recovered. However, six-thousand tons of contaminated soil was
removed from the site.
Five wells are being dug in and around the spill site to monitor the extent of the contamination.
Enbridge says there's been no contamination of any drinking water and the oil didn't reach any streams.
Sager says Enbridge Energy is responsible for the cleanup costs.
