Stahl farm has manure spill
TOWN
OF LUXEMBURG — The Stahl Farms reported a manure spill of 10,000
gallons on Sunday, according to Darren Kuhn, a conservation warden with
the state Department of Natural Resources.
Kuhn
said Sunday's spill occurred about 7:45 a.m. at E389 Luxemburg Road. It
was quickly contained and did not get into any surface water. Stahl
Farms quickly dammed the spill with dirt and then had it vacuumed up,
Kuhn said.
The
farm "did the cleanup the way it's supposed to be done and they did the
notification the way it's supposed to be done," Kuhn said.
He said the leak was blamed on a faulty clamp on a pipe.
The
Stahl Farms were involved in a lawsuit after a Luxemburg family sued
them claiming liquid manure spread on the farm's fields and snow-melt
seeped into the family's well, sickening family members. The two sides
recently agreed to a $380,000 settlement.
