Advocates Want Tighter Water Use LawsBy Chuck QuirmabachFiday, June 16, 2006 (UNDATED) An environmental group wants state legislatures around the Great Lakes to strengthen a plan to control large-scale water diversions from the Lakes. Midwest Environmental Advocates says an agreement reached by the region's Governors last year isn't tough enough. Attorney Melissa Scanlan says additional restrictions Wisconsin Governor Jim Doyle is co-chair of the Council of Great Lakes Governors, which came up with last year's deal.
