MADISON,
Wis. (AP) -- A coalition including environmental groups and the mayors
of Milwaukee and Madison are pushing $2 billion worth of projects they
want to be funded through the federal economic stimulus package.
The
group says the projects are environmentally friendly and include such
things as creating a high-speed rail between Chicago, Milwaukee and
Madison and investing in renewable energy.
Group
representatives said Tuesday their ideas would create about 30,000 jobs
in Wisconsin. Melissa Scanlan with Midwest Environmental Advocates says
the list includes items Gov. Jim Doyle has already presented to
Congress and President-elect Barack Obama's transition team.
But Scanlan says this list also includes other projects put forth by mayors, sanitation districts and others.
